Danvers State Hospital

The Haunting

Danvers State Hospital, opened in 1878, was designed as a self-sufficient psychiatric facility following the Kirkbride Plan. However, overcrowding and underfunding led to horrific conditions. Patients were subjected to experimental treatments including lobotomies, electroshock therapy, and hydrotherapy. The hospital's dark history includes over 100 documented patient deaths and numerous reports of abuse. Staff and urban explorers report apparitions of patients in hospital gowns, disembodied screams, and shadow figures throughout the abandoned buildings.
