The Haunting
The Colosseum witnessed unimaginable violence during its 400 years of operation. Over one million people and animals died within its walls during gladiatorial contests, public executions, and animal hunts. Visitors and tour guides report seeing ghostly gladiators in the arena, hearing the roar of phantom crowds, and witnessing shadow figures moving through the underground passages. The spirits of Christian martyrs, fed to lions as entertainment, are said to appear in the hypogeum - the underground chamber system.
